General
If our program and vision appeals to you, and if you are seriously interested in doing some voluntary work in Nepal, we herewith kindly invite you to apply for the program.
An application form will be send to you via separate mail upon your shown interest. Just send us an e-mail through our contact page and we will forward you the required information and form. The application form will be accompanied by a Declaration by Volunteer form which has to be duly signed and mailed back to us.
Please note that we strive to receive applications at least three months prior to your preferred departure date. Starting dates of our programs can be found on our program details page.
Upon receipt of your completed application and signed declaration form we will check your resume based on the indicated criteria and forward it to Nepal. If both the International Office and the Nepali headquarters of GVN favor your application you will receive an official confirmation that you have been selected.
With the confirmation you will also receive an invoice of where to transfer the financial obligation to. After receipt of your payment you are officially enrolled in the program and your contributions can then not be refunded any more. This, because the administrative process of school selection and placement will have commenced by then.
Selection Criteria Vision Nepal:
Besides the completed application form we have some criteria that we implement in the selection process of our volunteers.

- Your teaching placement will have to be a minimum of 8 weeks and can be a maximum of 4 months;
- No formal teaching education or degree is required. However, we do expect you to be comfortable in front of a wild, but sweet bunch of Nepali kids. So, some teaching experience as well as experience in dealing with kids on a professional level will contribute to your cause;
- Some overseas (outside Western countries) travel experience is advised;
- It goes without saying that your English language skills are at least above the average European standard;

- A commitment to participate in Global Vision Nepals Volunteer Programme for the agreed time period;
- Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment;
- An interest in socio-economic and environmental development.
Personal Characteristics:
In terms of personal characteristics we require from our volunteers that they are:
- Flexible and open minded - a different culture and the customs and habits of developing countries require adaptation!
- Independent - you will have to be able to manage on your own in various and sometimes difficult situations;
- Creative - most schools do not have official educational programs and complementary text books or guidance. A lot will thus depend on your personal creativity;
- Humorous - a little touch of joy and humor always comes in handy and will make your stay an even more pleasant one.
Code of Conduct
Finally, we have drawn up a code of conduct list that all volunteers have to comply with in order to be considered for application. Should you not feel comfortable with one of the following we advise you not to apply.
- Smoking and drinking (alcohol) is not permitted in or around the school premises.
- The organization will not be in any way responsible, should any of the volunteers become involved in any illegal activities.
- The volunteers should abide by the rules and regulations of the school and of the organization.
- The volunteers should give the school adequate notice, regarding their departure date from the school and / or Nepal.
- The volunteers should not become involved with drugs. Possession of very small quantities will almost certainly lead to imprisonment.
- The volunteers are advised to respect local customs. Women should avoid inappropriate clothing in schools and public places.
